To CB, or not to CB

What is it about the Hunt drivers? Seems like they are always the butt of all jokes. Whenever I talk to a trucker they always have some story about a Hunt driver.

I ALWAYS have a cb hooked up in my car. I seldom talk on it anymore but while traveling I always have it on 19. Nothin like it to find out why you're caught in a traffic jam miles long on the Interstate and how long you might be. You just have to turn it on and listen to the truckers to figure out what's going on.

Yes, the talk can get mighty interesting but most of the time I think it's hilarious and great fun to listen to... even the smut. :o

(Definitely not a channel to have on while traveling with kids, yikes!)

If I needed help though I'd get on my ham radio (ask me how many antennas I have on my car) or use my cell phone.

I've had a CB since the early 70. Right now, I have an old Radio Shack side band that is still in good condition, although I haven't used it in about 5 years. I haven't even mounted my old twin trucker antennas on my truck I've had for 6. I have two portable (walke-talkie type) that I sometimes use on trips now, connected to a mag mount mini antenna. It's good for a few miles.

I still like to have a CB on long trips, just to listen for problems on the road ahead. It's saved me a few time when there was a huge backup and I got off the interstate and went around it. I also like to know where the radar sites are located...not that I speed, of course.

My wife hates to listen to the CB, so i have a cheap headset with one ear piece cut off, so I am legal, leaving one ear free to listen to outside traffic.

Yean, profanity and racial slurs are quite common now, not like it used to be back in the day. And the comment about the FCC couldn't care less is very true. We tried to get an obnoxious, foul-mouthed base station operator off the air around DC when I lived in the area, but nothing was ever done. You can use the off knob it you don't like what your hearing.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

Hey Billnut,
That is a heck of antenna. Did you make that and how is it grounded?

Don't remember my numbers.

I've got a CB in my 96 Honda. It was my Dad's car and he just left the radio in it when he gave it to me. I've never used it, but it's there just in case. I used one extensively back in the 70's. Then it got to where the language was too foul.

Rather it looks quite like a Buddipole multi-band antenna.

Your right Steve; it is a Buddipole.
:surrender:
I had never seen a picture of one; just an add in the back of a mag. That is a nice setup. I looked the "Buddipole" up on the web; not a bad price for what you get. I have use to loops and wire dipoles ( you need trees or cane poles ). Oops I Do not want to give our secret closeline reply away. ;)
