I thought I'd bolt it together, weld it, then take the bolts out after welding it everywhere a bolt was. I'd use the bolt holes to attach the bottom floor plywood to the trailer.

Come to think of it I never have asked, how to you secure the floor to the chassis? Through how many layers does the bolt go through? :?:

The bolt goes thru the plywood, thru the subfloor, and thru the top layer of steel.

So you might need a 3" bolt, or if that's too long, you can cut it to the correct length!

Widening the h/f was a chore (it took about 7 hours). Each piece had to be cut, carefully measured, and accurately welded. The thing is, it only has to be done once, the trailer will be used for years. And it will now take a queen-sized mattress.

The axle was a tight fit into the square tubing, so it was 'self-alligning'.

I kept the bolts in case a weld lets loose and welded in case a bolt lets loose, kind of the "belt and suspenders" insurance..... :D

I cut relief holes in the bottom of the floor to clear the frame bolts and will be drilling new holes for 3/8 x 3 inch carrage bolts to bolt the floor to the frame (floor is 2.25" thick).

Your system would work as well, I had considered it myself.

The square tubing was in my brother's 'stock pile'. Don't know what size.
I'm sure a piece of angle, say 2.5 x 2.5 x 1/4 would work, as the major load is on the spring. This was overkill, but that is what he wanted to do.

I added 14.5 inches to the width.

Added another pic to my album of trailer in garage, ready to go.

Looks like you did a wonderful job on your trailer Arne.

And you've got so many choices of what you can build on top of that!!!

That's the 1175# that's on backorder, right. So buy the 1800# trailer. Besides, if you look at my last poll, the 1800# trailer seems to be prefered over the 1175# one.

Thats my reasoning also IF I can get the 1800# one at the $299 price I heard another board member say they got it at. Problem is that you need a item# that is connected with that sale price. :)

I believe you can call Harbor Freight and tell them you heard the 1800# trailer was on sale, and you don't have an item #. They'll give you the sale price.

Tried, no dice. I did go ahead and get the 1800# trailer. :) Cost $350. I had a $5 off and free shipping coupon. Every lil bit helps. :)

Whats the order of washers, lock washers, bolt head, nut, etc? I also have red lock-tite if you think it might come in handy? :)

Got a LARGE container of Locktite 403 (1lb) from a bud for $5. Dying to use it also. :)

I would put a washer under the bolt head, and another washer under the nylock nut.

You could probably use the locktite on a regular nut instead of using the nylock nut.
