I just don't know about those butane stoves. Hank Hill says "butane is a basterd gas"

One-hitters, whippets and stoves--what a connection!

Remember that little device they had for the whippets--it was like a small canister, put the balloon on one end, twist to puncture, and the balloon fills? Are we all going to hell for remembering this?

And am I specifically going to hell because I worked at a supermarket while in high school in the dairy department, BEFORE Redi-Whip started using tamper-proof tops? Yes, there was an inordinate amount of returns of Redi-Whips during my tenure with that food emporium.

But for stoves to use in in the galley, I'm probably gonna go with propane. I just want two little burners that I can throw in the storage area and pull out when needed, and not take up a lot of counter space. Those propane units look nice, though.
Here we go again!

Ira,
I have a butane stove and it is great. Has a case and sits under my van seat along with a steel pan and stuff. The kids use it when the fish are biting and the adults forget to feed them. 8)

I will probably switch to propane for the tear because I think the fuel can is less likely to puncture, or just get too hot.

I've had this thing longer'n I care to remember, way more'n 30 years. It was mfg'd by Primus & is called the 'Grasshopper", presumably 'cause of the spindly legs. It was designed to use the longer 14.5oz cylinders but works well with the shorter 16oz too if you use some kind of block to raise the bottom of the 16oz cylinder by around 3/4". The control valve is incorporated into the cylinder connector & is operated by just turning the valve/cylinder. The utensil resting surface is rather small but I've cooked lots of bacon 'n eggs in a 9" skillet. The grates/pan rests fold inward for storage. The entire stove can be carried in a small pouch about 3" in diameter by 12" long. Not sure they're even still made but I've seen similar in outdoors/camping gear catalogs. Additional pix are in my album.

Single burner Coleman Powerpack Stove.

Postby goramsey » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:39 pm

I just bought the Coleman Powerpack Stove. 1 large burner. Just what I have been looking for. I had a Coleman 2 burner stove that I used for 30 years. I could only cook with one 10 inch pan. That sucked. With this puppy, a large pan is no problem. If I like it I will add a second to my collection. I will let you know.

I tried to post a photo of the unit in this post. All I got was a photo and I was unable to add any text. What am I doing wrong.

Nice stove. ;) Only one thing, here that gas (jug) is too darn close for comfort. Here it must be 1 meter or 3 feet away with a special shut off valve in between. :?

Wonder whatever happened to Ol Ira ? You brought back memories of a hilarious character

That is no problem, just get a hose adapter, and get rid of that little metal thing.

Single burner Coleman Powerpack Stove.

Here is the stove in the kitchen with a cool rubber surface to put it on. The stove doesn't move around that way.

We have a Coleman fold and go stove. Works great and compact for a two burner stove.
