Another design problem...

Postby mikeschn » Mon Sep 13, 2004 5:00 pm

Another design problem... well maybe not a problem, maybe it's a neat solution in disguise!!!

I have 8 1/2" between the bottom rail and the counter. If I put a traditional face frame in the for traditional doors, I'll lose about 4 1/2". And no-one wants a 4" high door back there. So what's the answer?

Here's a couple ideas I had...

A flip down door. You can see where the hinges will be mounted.

A pair of sliding doors... I would have to groove the bottom rail, and the underside of the counter.

What do you think? Which one do you like better? Do you have any ideas?

Mike,
My vote is for sliding doors. Think they would work best.

Sliders (and not the White Castle kind thank you). I'd run into the flip down door personally. Okay, so call me a klutz.

That's 3 votes... that's all I need. Sliders it is... Michelle is also having me move the counter up 2" to a height of 36" from the ground. That'll make the sliders about 10 1/2" high. Perfect. I'm going to have to check out aluminum channel soon, to see if that's easier than putting grooves in wood!

Mike, how about a flip up with stops to add to your counter space if needed and if not flip it back down in place

Do you have your little teardrop cutout painted yet? I'm looking for something that I can paste into this photo..

LOL .. what a funny photo! I spent the day on my knees outside moving plants and creating new flower beds. When we took down those massive trees it turned my shade beds into full sun beds. Some of my plants were not happy at all. I should post the pictures of the trees we took down that were part of what kept us from joining your camping weekend. We're dangerous with a chainsaw .... can't imagine us with a tablesaw. :o
