BC Teardroppers Unite

British Columbia Chapter of the Tear Jerkers (Director Brian Woods "Vedette")

Re: BC Teardroppers Unite

As Steve & Rob are aware.
We now have an Official B.C. Chapter of the "Tear Jerkers"
There are now 3 members and things are moving along very quickly.
It is recruitment time!
I am, as Director for this newly formed Chapter, trying to compile a list of Teardrop enthusiasts in and around B.C.
Also reminding those of you here on the TnTT to register on the Tear Jerkers Forum to become offical members of the B. C. Chapter.
Hopefully this will help to unite us and lead to more localized events in the near future.
Please PM me with your information if youy are interested.

I am a tearjerker member and do frequent that forum.
Would be great to have a Chapter here in B.C.

Please let us know if you start one as I'd like to join it as well Thanks

I'm on the Sunshine Coast so no matter where we meet, I'm going to have to take a ferry.
There's not much work here, so we're looking to move - probably to the Island or the LM.

You know, I've been here about 8 years and haven't taken that second ferry to Powell River yet. I've got some friends who have been trying to get us to go up to Khartoum Lake with them, but the timing and the weather never seem to line up. With a trailer, weather won't really be much of a factor (the missus doesn't tent camp....ever) so we ought to be able to get out more often - that's the plan, anyway...

Given your own experience, you might get a kick out of this:
ferryhostage.com
There are signs advertising the website all over the coast and it really seems to have struck a chord with people.

I've been mainly building boats since about '96ish, but over here you do whatever to earn a living.
Over the last few years I've built a niche as a maintenance contractor - as I'm sure you're aware, there are a lot of very wealthy people who have holiday places here. I look after some of those properties, vehicles and boats while they're not here.
I'm getting away from it after an injury last year though - I need to find something that's not quite so physical....but I'm not sure what yet.

If we were to plan a group trip, maybe up somewhere around Pemberton/D'arcy way through to Lytton/Lillooet ? The highway's fine for little trailers and the weather is reliably great during the summer. Greg (Victoria) and droid (McBride) would have the longest run....of those who have checked in, anyway.

All depends if you want a rec site or an actual provincial camp ground we got lots of rec sites free camping free fire wood where the Provincial one you pay for everything..Bear lake was nice or there is Crystal lake and it's a rec site

You turn right just as you come off the boat at Earl's Cove. Apparently it's a pretty short drive..and they do it in a Class C moho pulling a quad trailer so the road must be pretty good.

I've just finished and sold my last sailboat and I'm done with building them again. It's a lot of work and my body can't take it anymore.

Yep, I hear that !
I built power and sailboats for a few LM builders, the moved to the Coast to build aluminum boats - there's a builder here who has been changing the way people think about aluminum boats.
Then I hung out my own shingle...just finished a partial refit on a 48' sailboat (new teak as well: BIG job) on top of the usual winterizing/maintenance/etc and that's when I realized I'm done with the biz. Thought I might look into teaching the trade at Quadrant over in Sidney...dunno yet. I'd like to keep my hand in it because I enjoy doing it, but it takes a toll physically.

For your island-hopping adventure, sounds like you're thinking Gulf Islands ?
You'll definitely get your frequent-flier points on the ferry !
Or are you staying at your cabin and using your own boat ?

It's an experience in crap weather!

Hehe...I've heard that, especially once you come around the corner. Kinda like the Langdale boat that way I guess, though that one's a big enough boat you don't feel much of it.

What sailboat did you build ?

Talked to Onno today!
He is "in" as a Tear Jerker and is excited about TD camping after a summer of camping in his newly finished (July 1st) teardrop.
They are thinking Yellowstone for 2013, which would mean they could kill two bird with one stone if they took in "Walk in the Winds"

there is a haunted ranch over by cache creek area that I've wanted to check out or the Bowron lakes by Barkerville or Mount Robson I always liked Bear lake provincial park as a kid but there are not as many trees now and you have to buy firewood

The Kamloops/Merritt area is pretty central, depending on who can make it. I grew up there and camped all over that area: you are sure to get spots for a group of trailers to roll into over easy ground. The weather during the summer is reliably good and there are plenty of other options nearby if our main plans fall through for whatever reason. Really, anywhere up the plateau to about Bonaparte would work well for us.

I've got family in 100 Mile, Williams Lake, Likely, etc - unfortunately that's a long drive from the LM for a weekend. There are at least two of us timing the ferries as well.
One of the bigger, more touristy parks might be a better idea for a first Gathering.
On the other hand, the Seton Portage area (Lillooet) is hot and dry with lots of lakes and is almost ignored by other campers.
Somewhere in the Okanagan maybe ? - Brian's front lawn ?

Heading over to set up a tearjerkers account now...
