See we are on the list. We are from Salem, Or. Little farther north than our neighbors in California. Need to correct the list. We are returning after a great first visit last year.

Dave & Dixie, glad to see you are coming back this year - will see you when you get there, oh, I'm still from Washington (you got to be a bit easy on them Canadian's-sometimes they get the states mixed up-sure glad that didn't happen when I was following them south all the way to the Dam Gathering in April!) Take care and enjoy your trip up north!! Ted Hoefer Camano Island, Washington

I was wondering about propane fire pits. I found the ban and restrictions on the BC Wildfire Service website for the Kamloops Fire Centre. Westbank is in the K5 Penticton zone. On the Ban & Restrictions web page it states:

Campfire Bans in Kamloops Fire Centre

• Definition of Campfires

All open fires--including campfires--are prohibited throughout the entire Kamloops Fire Centre. This prohibition will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.

Fireworks, burning barrels, tiki torches and sky lanterns are also prohibited.

This step is being taken to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

These prohibitions do not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres. The use of a campfire apparatus that does not meet these specifications is prohibited.

Here's a link to that web page: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprscripts/wildfirenews/DisplayBan.asp?ID=419#CampfireBans

It looks to me that propane fire pits (portable campfire apparatus) with a CSA or UL rating are allowed as well as cooking with gas stoves and briquettes. I've heard that during a fire ban in Washington state briquettes are not allowed so this is kind of surprising to me. Per the restriction, the flame height of 15 cm is 5.9 inches for us here in the US. I like to keep my flame low so I don't see a problem with that.

Of course, the final determination is up to our gracious host Brian as to whether we can use any of these devices.

the fire extinguisher will be with in reach - at least mine will with it's new exterior "when camping" mount is used on the outside of the tongue box. (when camping just pull it out of the tongue box and hang it on the outside for need be - just got to remember to put it back in when traveling or I will in need for a new fire extinguisher when I get to my next camp site!!)

I'm loaded up - beds made and ready to go, but still have 4 more days of work left before I can get on the road heading north to Canada!! (work is almost like having to wait to be let out of prison - ar - ar - ar !! private joke, sorry)

Just me, I'm afraid. Lori's got a trial coming up and can't get away. I'm booked on the 7 ferry, so Friday afternoon sounds about right.
