Do I have to go 1 1/2" roof insulation?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby norm perkiss » Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:35 pm

Irarat,
I used 1/2" insulation and cut it just a smidge larger than the opening. Stuffed in 3 layers. I did have a couple of high spots, but used course sandpaper to smooth it out. It stayed in place until I put the top on. No problems.

...Ira, we are using 3 layers of 1/2 and I don't plan to kerf nuthin', afterall you are using(we are) pieces that are only 8 to 14 in wide so just stuff 'em in there...once your bendy ply is bent it is in compression and will be very ridgid...on a side note as to "bendy ply". We get ours thru the cabinet shop behind us and their supplier quit handling 1/8 "bendy" because of sag problems, we ended up going with 3/8(5/16nominal) for roof and ceiling

1 layer of 1" and a layer of 1/2". No bulges. Kerfs? We don' need no stinkin' kerfs.

Thanks, Norm. Thanks, Jack. Thanks, Bruce. And thanks, Tom.

If I can get away without doing those kerfs, I'm going for it.

To this point, I still have 10 fingers, and who knows what will happen the first time I attempt to kerf? Why, the first time I had sex, I could swear we had a solar eclipse that lasted 4 days.

And, oh--thank you too Woody:

I was afraid it would be some exciting, glamorous story about you wrestling bears or something. Not just a story about old farts like us tryng to do the things we used to 10 years ago without a second thought.

Slipping on the dock...my then feeble but now departed grandma slipping in the shower and breaking her hip...

Same thing.

But feel better!!!

Okay. That's better. But my grandma used to wrestle them too, but never got hurt.

She couldn't handle bathrooms, though.

It's a b**** getting old. At first I thought you were giving me a COMPLIMENT, and I even first started composing this post like that.

THEN I REALIZED THE JOKE!!!

She was a beauty though, my first. Roberta Miller from Syosset, Long Island.

I gave her the best 20 seconds of pleasure a woman can experience.

What? It took me too long to finish?

Ira,
I know a guy who is 6'6" and about 350 pounds, used to be a professional linebacker. Strange coincidence he married a Roberta Miller from Syosset, Long Island and she's just about your age. I'll have to ask him if he knows you.

Big fat guys like that, even strong ones, can never catch me--I'm too quick.

Especially football players.

If they don't see the lines, they don't know where the hell to run.
