I used cleats on the edges of the seats, to support the table, and two filler sections, for sleeping.

For the pedistal, I cut a basic unit from the rv shop, and had the muffler shop swedge a section to marry the two sections back together so that the table swivels for easy entrance/exit with the table in the dining position.
You could probably have an entire pedistal built by the "Midas Man".

I placed this section inside the bottom section of pedistal.

This section is about 6" long.

Dean....I'd go with Steves idea on this one...Fleetwood also used just wooden cleats to support the table in the middle of a sleeping area....held up for 14 years in my tent trailer....Doug

Maybe I'll do away with the drawers below each bench and just put a hinge on the back of the bench to access those storage areas... freeing up the lower face of the bench to do whatever I decide on to support the table when it's stowed...

It sounds like you've made a decision, but I walked past an old metal vacuume cleaner wand that had 2 parts today and thought it might do what you are looking for. If you can find one, just cut the two parts to the right length and you are good to go.
