since there is not that much volume of water moving, would a self priming handpump work on the water tank? Just trying to keep it simple.

Larry . I think it would work just fine...considered it myself...figured we'd give the JCWhitney $25 pump/faucet combo a whirl and see how it works

The intent of my post was that if Jack was driving from Lousiana to Florida, I doubt he would fill his water tank when he left the house.

Ira, Larry is talking about a little self-priming RV water pump(I assume) and not a Cast Iron pitcher pump(farmstead pump) so there is not much weight involved

I purchased a RV self prime hand pump from Camping World. Think it was about $15 or $20, do not remember.Its real light and easy to use.
Have it connected to a removable 6 gallon Wal Mart special container. The container takes too much space in the galley and I am thinking of using MadJack's idea for water storage.

By the way, I find my self laughing out loud when I read a lot of your post.

...yes I would because my water is better than yours and I might just want to stop and make coffee or wash my hands..besides it 400miles to Fl from here and 800 to Orlando and a bunch more down to the Keys...I might wanna spend the night somewhere's on the way down

If you need to mount your pump above the water source you can add a check valve. Once primed, the valve prevents the pump from losing its prime. Check valves can be found at an aquarium shop.

I gotta check out that pump. My plan is to get the Coleman Hot Water on Demand unit, but that is EXPENSIVE. As a step, maybe I could install that pump and later, retrofit it for the Coleman.
