Need Help With Trailer Chassis

Postby Eagle » Sun Sep 26, 2004 12:51 pm

Greetings,

Been looking at the Weekender and a couple of other designs. Probable will be 80 to 90% weekender.

I have a 5' x 10' trailer with 2" x X for a floor, BUT the axle is 60" from the rear. Would this axle placement be a MAJOR problem? Moving it would involve too much effort. If the axle placement is OK, would I need to insulate the floor since it is constructed of 2" x 8" and 2" x 6" lumber?

OR

look into a custom built 4' or 5' x 8' trailer

OR

do you think a bolt together 4' x 8' would be the better option? What do you think of the 1175lb trailer? Much trade off compared to a 1800 lber? That is would I REALLY need the 1800lb trailer?

This will probably be a solo camping unit. So, one last question here, what do think of just one cabin door on the right (passenger) side?

Thanks

IMHO, 60 inches is too far forward..if you insist on using that trailer you have, add a whole bunch of stuff to a tongue box.. 8)

Thanks. Just needed to hear that conclusion from someone who has one of these.

What do you think about Mike's weekender on a 1175# bolt together trailer?

TIA,

Did not know or forgot about this poll. Wish there were more votes, but I guess with the results......NUF SED

Looking into a custom 5' x 8' and if not too $$$$ will go that way. Guess I will be building as soon as the chassis issue is settled and arrives. Assuming nothing happens.

Thanks
