Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I got the D door seals from Grant Whipp and attached to one door this weekend. .... Does the adhesive side go against the T molding or against the door edge? does it matter?

Either way now the door is awfully tight!! I know it will relax a bit over time , but I don't want to have any damage in the meantime.
I'm thinking I might need to go with a smaller or flat weatherstripping.

What did you use?

Julie, while it can go in either place, placing it on the T mold is usually best...if it is too tight, youcan goto your local hardware or box store and get some flat, closed cell weatherstripping...

Julie I picked this up at the local hardware store. It works great.
I attached it to the T molding.

I went with a rubber seal from HD. I put it on the "T" molding, that way I wouldn't rub against it when getting or out of my door.

Thanks all...... I'm wondering if I just need a smaller diameter / size of the D molding. I'll look around. I haven't seen the Frost King brand in my local stores.

Having too much of a weatherstripping I'm afraid will either help the door come open during travel (not allow the door lock to close all the way ) or will end up damaging the hinge or T molding.

Talked to the guys at HD. Tell them what you want to do. They will carry closed cell foam and rubber. You may want to buy a couple of different options and give them a try. I wanted a snug fit, not tight. If the WS is too firm it will push the door out of shape and could cause a leak. It needs to fill the gap, compress and not cause too much force.

Endo posted a pic for a "medium gap"...and that extreme weatherstripping is great stuff. I found it for sized for "small gaps" too. Same brand.

Lowes carries a much better selection of weatherstripping vs Home Depot. At least here in Cleveland.

This may be a dumb question but did you put your hinge flat against the door & the trailer wall or did you offset the trailer side?

I had to put a 1/8" aluminium flat bar behind the trailer side of the hinge to get the trailer door to seal correctly & not to tight.

Well, first off, I do have 1/16" alum angle on my door opening and I did fit the door flat against that when I put the hinge on. There is a bike tire tube behind the hinge for weatherstripping.

I took off the D seal from Grant and tried some other that I had new in the pkg, it's about half the size-- can't remember the numbers right off.
Seems to work better but I might try a little something else too. The door is shutting better, I haven't cut for the door latch yet

Julie, I used a piece of 1/4" ply behind my hinge to to allow for the seal.

I still need to trim the ply to match the hinge.

Bledsoe.... I might have to do that , add a little "height" to the hinge . We'll see ... going to LCG in just a week and a half !!!

Hopefully no rain... I know I have some places I need to fix diverters, etc.
