best HF trailer to use

my wife and i have decided we WANT A TEAR DROP iwill build it my self i already have created my full size wall template i beleive i can handle the build but not sure which HF kit would work best also curios as to some of the final weights on trailers that other folks have built any help or sugestions will be greatly appreciated

Brian welcom to the board,,,not to give ya a bad answer,,but a lot depends on the size of the tear,,,length and width,,also kind of construction and how heavy or how extensive your cabinets are gonna be,,
some trailers are light weight,,in the 6-800 lbs and would work fine on a lighter trailer,,others are 11-1400lbs and need a heavier rated trailer to carry the load safley,,,also tongue weight can be a real issue if ya front load the tear and or have the axle located to far to the rear,,,Just ask Mike about his Baja,,with close to 200lb tongue weight,,I guess we need more info on size and your design ideas before a good answer can be given,,keep the info coming and take pictures,,,again welcome

I used the HF 990 lb. folding trailer with 4.8 x 12" wheels.

I used the 1175 # HF trailer, with 12" wheels.
I maybe should have used the heavier one, since my trailer ways in at 1060 pounds.
But then, with this suspension it does not bounce around at all on the road, and I understand that with a heavier suspension it probably would.
The frames are all the same, it's only the springs and axle that are different.
The hubs, too, are the same.
I plan on changing the rims, since there are 14" rims with the same lugnut configuration, but that's another project.

I believe the tongues are a bit different on the two HF trailers. The 1800 lb tongue U channels with a have a little 3/8 inch lip on it or "return" making it a bit stronger whereas the 1175 lb tongue has a plain U channel. However I think the 1175 has a cross member on the tongue that helps to strengthen it. I am thinking on using the 1175 trailer too. My estimate for my design comes in at 930 lbs fully loaded with a 10% allowance for things a I forgot. What I was wonderin' was that you said the hubs are the same. Did your 1175 trailer come with a 5 bolt hub and wheels. The HF website isn't clear on the 1175 trailer. Just says 12 inch wheels. Another site I saw describing the 1175 said it came with 4 bolt hubs and wheels. How long ago did you get your trailer? Thanks for any info!
