What are the dimensions for a roof

Postby fornesto » Tue Nov 02, 2004 1:31 pm

I'm assembling my parts and materials list. I'm building a 10' +/- long Ken-Skill like trailer, I'm thinking about the roof. If I use 1/8" Luan to make the curve, how long should the piece be to span from the front, up and over to the hatch hinge? 12' 10' I'd rather not have a seem...I guess the same will go for the aluminum roof.

Any thoughts? :?

Doesn't Andrew have a cad model for a Kenskill? If so, he can give you the arc length of the top skin.

Mike...

I don't know the specifics for a Kenskill, but I can tell you that 10ft is the exact dimension to cover the curved portions of the top of my tear, front to back, as pictured below. The flat front and rear portions of the tear will remain wood. (it's a 4x8)

On mine, it took almost 2 full 8 foot lengths to go from front to back. The joint is on the top, and the bottom 1/8 sheet joint and the top one are offset by 3 inches. All is well glued. Gap is filled with Bondo and invisible. Expoxy paint should keep moisture out.
