Plastic hatch hinge questions

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby bfitz » Wed Aug 05, 2009 8:30 am

Current quote coming from Monroe Engineering. I'll edit this post when it arrives.

Quote in: $53.00 for a 50 ft roll, estimated shipping $7.50.

I do have another question though: Looking at the schematic on the Monroe site, it -->looks<-- like the hinge will open only about 90 degrees. I didn't find tech info on this. Can someone get a rough estimate of max opening and post?

B, the hinge will work roughly thru the entire 360degrees...the only actual limitations, are clearance between mounting screws/trim/hardware......

Does anybody have a 7 foot piece left over they can sell me?

I am redoing the hatch on the Sierra because the old Hurricane hinge leaked and messed up the galley. This is not because the hurricane hinge was bad it is because it was installed in two pieces and I think the angle of my hatch opening was pushing it to its limits. I think the plastic hinge may be a better fit for the application.
Thanks
Greg

hi,

does anyone know of anybody willing to export one of these to New Zealand.?

Both Monroe & McMaster-Carr aren't interested.

Monroe have ignored my request & McMaster-Carr accepted my online order BUT emailed "Due to the ever-increasing complexity of U.S. Export regulations, McMaster-Carr has decided to only accept orders from a few, long-established customers of ours overseas. We cannot accept your order and regret any inconvenience this causes you."

thanks

I believe 2bits used the same hinge on his TD. Maybe he could also chime in on its dependability?

Muggnz,
Ditto ;)

For the other forum residents here in Godzone: Co-Mac Pn Ltd, Kaimanawa St, Palmerston North stock these hinges in 3M lengths for $117. (+gst!)
Their website catalogue holds an inventory of interesting stuff, go to: comac.co.nz/ProNamIndC.html
Should have most of what you need for a lot of a build .

thanks Dez,

I can't use that one, as I've got an uneven gap that it will not cater for. Besides which the largest portion of the gap on my TD, is well under the 17mm minimum required.

So I'll probably have to go for #4525. Although I've just found another site of interest. It doesn't have any stock, but promises to put people in touch with one, if they ask. Which I've done.

I'll let everybody know how I get on with this.

Remember the notes above the product number 4525 states "Not suitable for exposed areas". Not sure what they mean by that but it may pay to check with them before you put it on the hatch or doors

Hmmmm, Ebay item looks no different to No 4525. Betcha put both side by side in our ozone depleted sunshine & both will breakdown, eventually. :( If we can define 'eventually' as say 10, 15 years, what's the problem. Of the two similar items think I'd use the less pricey item after taking the shipping into the bargain.
