Does anyone know if these can be mounted in the folded position

...don't see any reason why not...if you have read this entire thread, you should be aware that such things as the screws and or AL/wood strips used to prevent "pucker" will keep the hinge from complete 360* opening/closing................

Everybody that's used the plastic hinge; is it still holdin' up?

How long have you been using it?

Mine is good, built in 2006. It was a McMaster-Carr hinge. I've opened it in cold weather, and it never cracked.

my hatch is also held on with this also so far so good

Is 4 inches spacing on screws good? I'm putting in gas struts and my hatch weighs about 80-100 lbs. Don't want to worry about pulling screws out.....

I placed my screws every 3" and ran them through a piece of aluminum. Is 4" close enough? Don't know for sure, but that's one place I didn't want to take chances, my hatch is extremely heavy as well. Hope this helps.

Well, i tried it last night with my heavy duty shocks....and my hatch is still too heavy, one more adjustment.

Four inches seems to be enough for now, might reinforce after our first trip coming up next week!

Good luck on the shocks. With my weekender configuration on the hatch and the height I want it to raise to, I'm havin' a time with the shock placement.

Yea, I didn't put as much thought into it as I should have. Have a few too many screw holes.....but that's what filler is for!

I like the looks of that plastic hinge. No screws on the outside and it aligns and supporst itself.

I just got that same kind of hinge here in New Zealand. Supposed to be good for 50,000 cycles.
What kind of screws did you use and how far apart were they spaced? There's not really enough space for washers.

I really like the design of the EURO/New Zealand plastic hinge, but I can't seem to locate a supplier here in the US. Anyone know of one? The only ones I have found look like a flat strap; which will work but I'd prefer non-aluminum with a profile like those pictured here in this thread.
