Axle question - is solid OK?

I'm reusing a utility trailer setup and have a solid axle, meaning the wheels don't hang up (?) and the frame is above the hub. This will give me a higher profile trailer. I know a lot of folks use the Dura-flex rubber suspension or similar axles. What should I expect from this solid axle? Is it worth swapping out?

I was wondering that too.. Some cement mixers have no suspension.... that would be completely unusable on something like a tear......

fornesto - I used a boat trailer and lowered it by doing a spring under. Originally the axle sat below the springs, I unbolted the axle and placed it above the springs, dropping the trailer about 2.5".
Of course, if by solid axle you mean it doesn't have springs, then either don't use it, or get some springs for it. It would beat your camper to death w/o them.
I'm actually going to remove one of the springs from the spring pack because my camper is so light.

Yes, I've got leaf springs. It just doesn't have the fancy off-set hubs like some tears. It is a simple spring-over axle suspension. I just noticed that a lot of the manufacturers use those torsion-type axles.

I think what Fornesto means is it is a straight axle, not a drop axle.

There's nothing wrong with what you have. That's the same type of suspension the Harbor Freight trailer uses.
