Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hello All,

I have been looking for an inexpensive scissor jack for the trailer. I have tried the local salvage yard ($20.00 and you find them!), Harbor Freight (Too Big), and the local parts store ($25.00--still too much).

On a whelm, I went through the automotive section of Wally World (Wal-mart to you yankees) and I found GM Goodwrench 1.5 ton scissor jacks model number GM7501. These go from 4 1/8 inches to a max of 15 1/8 inches high.

Now for the best part: The cost if $12.84 each!!!

Just got two for now until I work out all the details.

Yeh buddddy. I have two for our camper. They work really well. I went through the same search and lo and behold, the search ended at …. Yep… Wal- mart. With a lightweight trailer, you can twist them by hand without the crank rod. Great levelers.

I went with a pair of these jack type stabilizers from Northern

They're $20 each, but they bolt or weld on and they fold up out of sight when you're travelling down the road

I like that they are aluminum (lightweight, won't rust) and they break down for easy storage.

I bought a pair of those and in the garage on cement they seemed to pitch when I rocked the TD . That top nut is just sitting in the stand. Took them back to Fred Meyer. Danny

Thanks for posting the Grizzly catalog . I found this ATV/Motorcycle Lift that could work out for an adjustable work bench for me. Bellingham isn't that far away Danny

I have a question for you veteran TD users.

Is 2 stabilizers on the rear along with the front stand sufficient or do you find that the front needs it's own pair under each corner?

I only have 2 stabilizers in the rear and a tongue Jack on my tear. And like lots of others, unless I'm in a really "hilly" area I seldom use the rear stabilizers.

For the standard lay down only teardrop, you really don't need much in the way of stabilizers. And that depends partially too, on the stiffness of the springs, and how much you want to avoid rocking the teardrop when you roll over at night.

Now a standy is a totally different matter. I just installed two BAL stabilizers on the rear (pictures coming) and if Chell wants more, than I'll install two more on the front.

Can you give us a comparison of both the Walmart, and the Harbor Freight. Does the Walmart item have a crank shaft included. How much bigger is the Harbor Freight. I will eventually get to both stores to evaluate it myself.
