Help with a 4 x 8 Teardrop

I just seen my first Teardrop and fell in love .Im wanting to build one ,Wondering on a 4 x 8 what kinda leg room is there in the cabin ?Im 6' 1" tall if i went a little over 6 foot in the cabin would that still leave me enough room to build any cabnets in the rear?Just wondering if i need to go ahead and build a 4 x 10 ...Im sure after i build this one i will build another it seems to be adictive...

Hi John, and welcome to T&TTT.

How much sleeping room do you want? If you're 6'1" and you add 8" for comfort, you'll end up with a sleeping area of 6' 9". But what you add in sleeping room, you'll lose in storage. Your lower cabinet in the galley will only be 9" deep. But you'll still have the upper storage cabinettes.

Is your teardrop for 1 person or 2? If it's for 2, why not just build one that can hold a queen sized mattress?

I would build a 5x10 for your height and for maximum storage. just my 2 cents, good luck!

On my 4x8 I'm going to be getting 6ft 5in of sleeping space and still have lower cabinet 15-16 inches deep to hold a big cooler. Rear cabinet will open up directly outside rather than being tucked forward underneath the hatch. This is what's giving the extra space. Galley lid will open above that and there will be room for upper cabinets there.

I'm 6'5" tall and I just sold my 4x8 tear, a 1955 Benroy. The bed was only 6 feet long and I had to sleep diagonally in it. They built in a footwell under the kitchen sink on the one side for your feet but I found it unnatural for me to stick my feet in it when I slept so I didn't.

I bought a 1947 Kenskill to replace the Benroy and it has a bed that is 6'4" long. I haven't camped in it yet but I have tried it out and should be a lot more comfortable. The overall length of the body is 9'6".

The Benroy profile gives you the most space for bed and cabinets in an 8 foot trailer. The curve of the hatch allows the cabinets to be set further back in the trailer.
