Only 2 gussets for the Chubby Hatch?

Postby Geron » Mon May 02, 2005 11:07 am

I've followed Kuffel Creek "reasonably" close so far for my Chubby. The plans show only 2 gussets (one on each side) to hold the curve for the Hatch. I've noticed multiple gussets on the hatches shown on the forum and build sites.

Anyone had any problems with only two gussets? Not that big a problem to add more if it's necessary. I'll be skinning it with 1/8 inch Luan on the outside and 1/8 " birch on the inside.

I modified the plans for the hatch a little, take a look at my site and click on "April 21 the Hatch" and you see that I added two additionally gussets with some aluminum bonded between.

That'll work. Just shorten the spars appropriately. Much easier than fitting extra spars in the middle of the hatch.

Thanks.
