I'm using 3/4 ply for my sides
what is the best to use to fix the sides to the frame?
are decking screws enough as I'm using 2' * 3' framing pine under my floor or should I use something meatier like a batton screw

I hope you meant 2" * 3" pine, or that's going to be one heavy trailer

I think the deck screws would work if you used enough of them (maybe every 6"-8"?) otherwise I would use something bigger like lag bolts (batton screws?).

I used corosion resistant deck screws with the square drive. Can not say how they will work, but in 7 Weeks when I get back from Minden, we will know if the sides are still on the TD.

they have a hex drive theyre probably 5 mm thick twice as thick as a decking screw maybe its an australian term?

I use a carriage bolt right through the plywood into the frame. If I'm building a Woody I can cover the bolts with a baton, If its aluminum sides I recess them and the Aluminum covers them.
When you bolt the 3/4" plywood to the side of the frame you make what's called a "Box Beam" which basically means the plywood becomes a part of the frame and not just something sitting on the frame. A piece of plywood on edge is pretty hard to bend or flex.

Sounds like what we call a lag bolt over here. They come in several sizes, starting at about 1/4 of an inch up to 3/4 of an inch and larger.
