Harbor Freight trailers & Bolt Circle Chart

Well I sopke to somebody who was quite clearly brain dead over at harbor freight. I was trying to find out the bot pattern on the heavy duty utility trailer to see if I could use any type of car rim on it. The person just kept saying five lug. He just did not get it, so this is the ceonversation we had (this part is for your amusement)

Me: You drive a car right?

HF: Yes

Me: What kind?

HF: A camry

Me: Do you think the wheels from my cadillac would fit your camry?

HF: sure as long as there are five holes

Me: Have a good day!
-----------------------------------
So has anyone used one of these, do you know the bolt pattern? Any info would be appreciated.

Outstanding, thank you. Hmm, 5x4 1/2, I think that might be a ford size...

i'm always amazed where information is compiled; how does anyone know this stuff.....?

I am with you Jay. It always impresses me with the "stuff" that is out there on the big ol' I-Net.

When I was at my local junk yard looking for a spare they gave me the use of a bunch of different plastic strips with knobs on them so that one could measure the lug hole spacing on various hubs. I would strongley recommend have access to a set of those or else you stand the chance of getting it wrong even though you know what size you are looking for!

So where does hub size come into play? I'm talking about the big hole in the center of the wheel, not the lug holes. Guess if the lug holes match up it doesn't matter if the hub hole is too big. What are the chances the hub hole will be too small if my bolt pattern lines up ok?

WOW! That's comprehensive list! I'm saving it!

Quite the list, Mike, thanks!

If you want to maintain the list, you could change the 4 on 100mm (3.93") list entry for Toyota (Celica, MR2, Tercel '86-'89) to include one generation earlier of Tercel, so it would be '83-'89. I'm sure later Tercels and many years of front-wheel-drive Corollas are also in this category, but my 1984 Tercel I am absolutely sure of.

The list seems to have been made in 1989. Is the original source available, so an updated version could be grabbed?

Add to the 5-bolt pattern, 4" pattern:

1961 - 1963 Buick Skylark, Olds Cutlass, and Pontiac LeMans.

Your list of Mopar 4" pattern wheels is not entirely correct. The A-body cars were 4" with or w/o disc brakes all the way through the end of the 1972 model year. ALL 1973 - 1976 A-bodies have the larger 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

Imperials from 1946 - 1974 had 5-on-5" wheels.

All 1970 - 1974 E-body Barracuda/'Cuda have the larger bolt pattern, as well. NO Aspens or Volare's had the small BP, they had the 4-1/2" pattern.

The question was asked about the center hole, aka the register hole, which helps center the wheel onto the hub. If the hole on the wheel is too small, it will never seat fully on the hub, and you WILL lose the wheel and tire as the lugnuts loosen and your assembly rolls merrily away! You CAN run a register hole that is larger than the hub diameter, but you MUST insure the wheel is centered and that the correct lug tightening sequence is adhered to! Check you lugnut torque after the first 50 miles, and drive on!

Though the original post is 7 years old and the poster seems AWOL, I have to respond. Go to any car dealership and ask a salesman what the bolt pattern is on one of their cars. Maybe ask him how many bolts hold the oil pan on, or some other stupid question. A sales person or a counter man cannot be expected to be a comprehensive encyclopedia of knowledge. Here's a heads up for you. Buy a tape measure. Learn to use it. Don't expect others to do your work for you.
