Axle placement...

Postby Shrug53 » Sat Jun 19, 2004 10:08 pm

I think I read somewhere that the axle should be about two thirds back from the front of the bed. So on a 4x8 trailer that would mean the axle would be centered about 32" from the back of the trailer. Is that right? It seems a bit too far back to me. Is it so far back because of galley weight? It seems like it would be better off in the middle.
Can anyone explain this to me?

The plans i have for the 4 x 8 cubby shows the center of the axle 36" from the rear of the trailer.I would think if you left your axle in the middle of the trailer that it would be tail heavy ,being that most of your weight will be in the rear of your tear .But dont take my word for it i haven't built one yet ...

OK, so it sounds like I was pretty close. Green Horn, make sure you take lots of photos of your build. I am sure everyone would love to see it in progress.
