Baby Moon Hubcaps

I have the HF 1800# trailer frame and really didn't care for the look of the "Tacoma" rims. This past week I purchased some Baby Moon hubcaps on E-Bay that have an 8-1/4" diameter. Even though I haven't yet decided how I want to install them I taped one in place and couldn't believe the difference it made in the teardrop's appearance. With the Baby Moons covering those triangular holes in the rims the trailer has the more retro look I am after. I know other members have expressed interest in doing this so I will let you know how it goes and post some pictures. George.

Baby moons are great. Baby moons with beauty rings, even better. I've had a heck of a time finding baby moons to fit mine. They are the same layout as an early mopar or hudson or kaiser cap, but need to be real deep to clear my wheel bearing caps. I had a pair and lost one, so for now I modified an old hudson cap using a 2 1/8" hole saw. Came out pretty good but not a baby moon. Looks kinda retro for sure.

I hear you about the need for the caps to be deep enough to clear the wheel bearings. That was a concern of mine but I lucked out. Greg, I just saw your picture- that's what I'm talking about! Very retro.

Loader, Today I drilled and tapped four 1/4-20 bolt holes spaced evenly(and exactly)in the HF rims and inserted pan head bolts. I left about a 1/8" gap between the bolt heads and the rim. The baby moon snapped in place over the bolt heads. I'm having a little trouble editing my photos so I'll post them tomorrow. George.

Thanks George! I figured there had to be another way besides Mike's suggetion of Gorilla Glue!

Not quite ready for wheel covers yet, however gotta plan ahead! 8)

I finished the building floor this weekend, now to undercoat it, and mount it to the trailer.

George,

They look great! I think that I would paint the wheels black or the blue to match your frame. Should look super.
