I messed up my hurricane hinge...

Postby kmagill » Mon Mar 30, 2015 1:44 pm

In my haste and ignorance I cut my hinge too short by about an inch on each end. See the attached picture. Other than replacing the entire hinge with one the correct length is there a way to fix this?
Also, anyone know where I can pick up a new hinge in the Los Angeles area? I know I can order online but I'd love to get one today or tomorrow if I need it.
Thanks.

I happen to have one of those "too short" "practice" hinges too.

I can't help you with a work around on your hinge, but what I did was to keep on building while I was waiting for the new one to be delivered.

Well right now I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just what are you worried about besides it's not right? There's no more rain in the forcast. ;) So-Cal TearDrops in Upland may have the hurricane hinge. They also have a web site it's HERE

You also want the body side of the hinge to overhang each side by ~1" to direct water away from the joint, since you can't easily waterproof the hinge from the side. I'm guilty of making the same cut.
