I recently purchased a pair of manufactured doors. They are built in a frame that screws into the side of the camper. Vinyl insert then covers the screws on the outside. I think that these are fairly common because I have seen pictures of others on the site.

Anyway, I've noticed that the drivers side door does not want to open from it's frame. I do not know if this is something that will improve once it is mounted in the wall, but I'm having my doubts.

It seems like the catch does not want to move smoothly around the plate in the doors side. It is extremely difficult to open or close the door from it's frame.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with a manufactured door and if so how did you rectify the situation. I've already made sure that the screws around the catch are fully engaged and flush with the plate.

Any help is appreciated.

I found out what is going on.

When these doors ship they have plastic support spacers positioned around the frame. These help hold the frames shape during installation.

You are supposed to remove these tabs after installation.

Thanks, Dalorin, for this tip. I just installed a manufactured door today, and I don't know if I would've realized to remove the spacers if I hadn't seen your post.

It's better known as paying attention to what's going on.

Went to the RV Surplus yard this week and found a rack of doors in the perfect size and shape for my project.
When I tested the latch / lock function and the door didn't open, I grabbed another one out of the rack, and another... Same thing.
Then, I remembered this post and sure enough, there were two plastic spacers holding the doors snug in the jam.

I'm not sure of your doors, however, that does appear similar to mine, yes. I would call the place you purchased them and ask if you should remove them.

It's deceptive because they look like they belong in the door. However, I was told to remove those tabs.

The manufacturer apologized for not telling me at the onset.

so yeah, I touched one yesterday sideways, and it fell off. Was held on by a little putty. Pulled the rest and the doors open and close so easy its silly now.

Yep, got embarrassed by that at the first RV place I worked at. Good thing I'm better at building cabinets than installing doors!
