Fenders

I have a question about fender width. The outside face of my tire is 9.75 inches from the face of the trailer side with no weight on axle. I do have a cambered axle so I expect it may be a little closer with weight on the axle as the camber straightens with load. Question is should I use a 10" wide fender or a 10.75" wide fender? Should the tire be tucked in or even with the fender edge?

The biggest thing is you don't want them to touch. (I had a side wall gash on my boat trailer due to misalignment of the fender with the tire and the lip of the fender coming into contact with the sidewall. All OEM stuff, so I figure it was that way from the get go until someone put car tires on there; have since gone back to narrower trailer tires.)

With a leaf spring axle it will tend to dance around more than a trailing arm axle, and there needs to be some allowance for the tire to deflect. If the wider ones are available as a stock size and they don't look dorky, I'd say use them.
