Building Fenders

Postby ToadSprockett » Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:11 am

I'm think about building my own fenders out of wood, the frame is extended past the wheels just a touch. I was going to build it out of wood and then use aluminum on protect it.

The question is how far from the wheel does the fender need to be?

Thanks.

I'd think it would depend on wheel size and spring travel.
I have a homemade kayak trailer that fenders are fine for their weight but if I somehow managed 3000 lbs on the trailer they'd rub.

He's right. But I can tell you this, with a Dexter Torflex, 22.5ยบ down, I leave 4" of room, after the cabin is loaded.

Spring axles? Dunno. I don't paint on cave walls either. :? :frightened:  8)

Somewhere I heard max spring travel plus 2 inches. Kinda made sense to me.

Sorry forgot to mention the trailer, it's a standard HF...

I could buy fenders, but the more I looked at it, the more I didn't like that idea...

Thanks
