PVC boards as framing?

Postby Talia62 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:17 pm

Tried searching to see if anyone here has done this, but only came up with pvc plumbing pipe used as framing. What I'm wondering about is using solid pvc boards as framing on a tiny standy. If the material is capable of this type of use, it would be one more thing that couldn't be water damaged in case of any leaks. Not sure what the weight comparison with wood would be, though.

That stuff is darn heavy, from what I have seen. Heavier than I would care to use in anything that is movable.

Good to know, I figured there wouldn't be any weight savings. If it was a wash with the weight of wood, though, it might be interesting to see how it would work, just for the waterproof properties...

I used some on a small outdoor project a few years ago. It has stood up well. I don't know if I would class the screw holding ability as better, same or worse than a good hardwood frame material, such as poplar, which is used a lot for TD's.

No. If they get hot with a load on them they twist and warp.

Besides being really heavy, they are as limp as a noodle. The require something structural to attach to. Exactly the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
