Mattress for 5x8 teardrop

Postby SPLAT » Sun Dec 13, 2015 2:57 am

Got all the materials for my build except for a mattress! I have room for a short queen mattress.
I know what I would like... I think :)
It would be nice to find a mattress that would fold up into some sort of seating arrangement, so we can watch some TV or read...

It may be nice if we had two separate mattresses so one could sleep and the other sit up.

I can't find the right dimensions to make it work and I figure someone out there must make something :)

The picture is the general idea but nothing fits

The neatest answer for the cool factor is in the back of any conversion van. The couch to bed conversion system. Score on from a junk yard for $125 bucks and mount it to the floor. BOOM DONE! Most have received little if any real use and are usually in very fine condition. They sleep well and are a very very comfortable couch. All this for less money than you could probably buy a decent mattress.
Growing older but not up !

You might take this in to consideration. I plan on purchasing one for my trailer.

There are a number of us who have bought from the Foam Factory http://www.thefoamfactory.com/ They can make to order. One warning if you buy from them, it comes shrink wrapped, release it inside the tear.

I also used foam I bought online. I bought plenty big and when it arrived, I cut off the excess and used them for cushions to recline against when I am watching movies in the TD. To get it in the TD once unrolled I had to roll it back up and then stuff. Worked alright. Since then I decided to cut my mattress up in three sections, cover them and then remove them when I want to air out the TD after a trip in the winter to get rid of all of the condensation that invaribly shows up in cold weather.

TD's really shine in cold weather!

I bought two queen sized 3" foam toppers on a Black Friday sale and paid only $65.

I bought one of the 4" memory foam toppers in queen size and it fit perfectly in my 57X78 space. These usually come with a 1.5" layer of memory foam and 2.5" layer of regular firm foam. It is easy to roll up and remove through standard doors. I just couldn't get used to the memory foam so we flipped it and slept on the regular foam side. Also be aware that the memory foam gets very hard in cold weather.

Had to give up... I couldn't find a folding mattress that would fit. But I did find a mattress with a nearly 5 star rating on Amazon...
