How crazy would this be?

Postby jlaudin » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:56 pm

I own a 1963 VW Single cab pickup. See pics. I thought of building a teardrop to tow, but now imagining building a bowed cover and sides from plywood sip instead of the canvas tarps shown in the picture instead. Since the truck has "dropgate" sides, I could even put in side doors. Use teardrop build technology and create a pickup truck camper.

Thoughts?
Jeff

I think that would be awesome! Another possibility would be a slide in unit that could be loaded or unloaded at random. Foam opens up a whole world of new possibilities.

A foamie build would be perfect for that.

I just saw one of these vehicles yesterday and my first thought was how perfect for a custom build.

Super cool!
Here's a challenge for ya.... One that is no higher than the VW for towing, but pops up to give you a standby for camping :?

Don't they call that a Westfalia ?

I agree that a foam build is a great idea for this, as is the slide-in idea so you don't lose any utility.
I think foam would be about the only way to get a hard-sided camper while keeping the weight manageable.
Just curious, how much useful payload can those things carry ?

Nice truck. Theres a few kicking around by me and a couple of duel cabs.
I recon it would make a great camper and yea the slide off posibility would make it a versatile vechile still
