Floor construction

Postby stanger1944 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 6:09 pm

I am gathering info for my first TD build. Figured I would pose some questions on floor construction. It is going to be a 5x8 floor and studs will be on risers using hurricane brackets . What thickness plywood and best layout seeing as it will be 5 foot wide.

I'd go with a layout of 5' lineal feet plus another 3'.

OSB was created to save $700 per house. (I consider it junk but some on this forum have had luck with it.) Any exposure to water and the edges will swell and never recover. MDF is heavy and can suck up moisture.

So.... use a good exterior grade of plywood. I'd go so far as to recommend ACX over CDX since it has less voids than the cheaper CDX. I'd go with 1/2" and support it with cross members on your chassis along with a pine frame.
