hand tool CNC machine

I love the idea of using my own hands to be the CNC machiine, not sure how it would work for panels the size of sidewalls or hatch spars, but the potential of the idea is cool.
For those of you who play with CNC machines, I was wondering about the cost of this machine VS. a regular rig capable of 4x8' plywood.

That's pretty cool. Freehand with a router can be difficult. Nice find!

Unless I missed some thing it would be very hard to get a even cut with a free hand router. It would be the same as following a drawn line.

The Shapertool is sort of nuts... in an amazing way. You move the tool holder, but it's moving itself, in a computer-controlled fashion on top of the holder. It makes up for your movements, just cuts where it's programmed to. Been watching that for awhile. I suspect it'll be pricy... good for certain production or as a very, very expensive hobby tool.

Would be loads of fun.

Yep. If you watch the screen on the video, they're just keeping a dashed line within a large circle. I assume the circle represents the 'fudge factor' area around the bit and the line is the designed pattern.

it says on the site that the router head is retracted when the operator gets out of line.

For the low price of $2100. I can buy a lot of plywood for guides.

We're very interested in it but that's a lot of faith to deposit over $1400 for an estimated ship date of September 2017.
It could never get produced, then where are you and your money?
We'll wait until you can find it from a retailer and then decide if it's really worth it.

So far after over 45 years as a cabinetmaker I haven't had the need for one.
I have 3 lengths of 10' aluminum that I can put together to make up to 30' radiuses with my 4HP router.
Every thing else I make jigs for and they serve me well.
