I've been using CNC routers in cabinet shops for over 8 years, I ran $100k big iron machines and owned a $30k prosumer machine. This thing is clever but there are so many reasons why you'll be disappointed. 1/64" is very optimistic. Cutting thick material will require many passes and with the backlash that is inherent in the cable/chain system the cut quality on your part is going to be ugly. You'll have a lot of fun building and tinkering with it, but when it comes to making any parts for a project you would be better off cutting by hand.

To get the tolerances they are quoting, it's going to have to run ultra slow feed rates to minimize cutting forces. This means your tools will run hot and you will eat up a lot of bits.

I could see it doing ok at light carving work (with the optional z axis), if that's all you want to do it's a great idea.
