Learning to Sew Canvas?

Postby thisadviceisworthles » Fri Jun 16, 2017 1:21 pm

Hi!,

I'm new here, and I want to build a teardrop similar to the Wild Goose plans that are posted on the forum. Unfortunately, I have other projects that take priority over the Tear, but I still want to go camping.

Since I will need to learn for my tear, and it will help me in the near future, I want to make a canvas enclosure for the hatch of my Chevy Volt.

Does anyone have recommendations for the Websites/Videos/etc for learning to work with canvas to make a small tent?

Thanks!

This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xySLDGxVj_c. There are some other good videos from the same Sailrite channel, too.

Lots of techniques and tips on the Hammock Forum DIY section here:

https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/forumdisplay.php/85-Do-It-Yourself-(DIY)

Many years ago (53 actually) I bought a used Singer home sewing machine that was gear driven in an era when many were belt driven and it worked fine for medium to heavy weight naugahyde, vinyl, and vinyl coated canvas to make tonneau covers and roadster tops.
