Hi foamies,
I found a video of a guy making furniture for a camper van using foam: https://youtu.be/ucf2FVIdr1Q?t=9m49s He makes a sandwich composite using foam, screen porch material, and primer. There's a follow-up video where he makes a finish using paper and diluted Elmer's glue.
I wanted to hear y'alls reactions and collect tips for making foam furniture. The finish looks very rough, rougher than foam wrapped with canvas instead of porch screen.
I am currently thinking of doing my cabinets out of foam (I don't trust foam furniture for a bed/seats). For now, I think I'll base my process on rowerwet's guide: http://www.instructables.com/id/Poor-Ma ... -weatherp/:
* glue pieces of foam together with gorilla glue (held in place with toothpicks)
* make a shell out of diluted Titebond II and canvas
* paint the shell with regular paint
Alternatively, I might use a patterned t-shirt weight fabric covered with clear epoxy like Madjack did: viewtopic.php?p=375202#p375202 The downside is that I hear epoxy is a pain to work with compared to Titebond II.
