Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I have some surplus tubing I had planned to use for a storage cage. I have been told it is too light to use as a utility trailer, but I don't know if it would be sufficient for a 5x8 teardrop build.

I'm not set on using it at all, so a simple "nope" is all I need to hear from someone in the know. If it will work, I can get started today without having to go out for material! Thanks!

Can you tell us what you mean by "100 wall"? Do you know the wall thickness in inches or millimeters, or maybe the standard steel gauge?

Sorry. That is what they call it at the steel place. Thought it was a common description. The wall is 100 thousandths of an in thick. So in between 1/16 and an 1/8th. Pretty thin, but too thin?

I don't consider that thin wall square tube at all. 0.100 inch wall thickness is pretty stout stuff for a 2 inch square tube.
That's not a standard gauge if the description is accurate - it would be thicker than 13 gauge (an unpopular gauge) but thinner than 12 gauge (a common size).

On our trailers we built the frames with 14 gauge 2 inch tube, that's a wall thickness of about 0.080 inch. I was going to go with even thinner, 16 gauge, but my welder said it's getting so thin it was hard to weld without burning through.

I would use it if I had it. I'm going to picking up steel soon (I hope tomorrow) and will probably get 12 ga 2X2. and 2x2x1/8 angle.
