Build in stages?

I know you can build a teardrop as you go but I’m curious if anyone upgrade/added items after they were using their trailer for a bit? For example did anyone run their teardrop without power to start and add it later? Things like that.

I’m thinking about getting the basics and adding as I go (running wire for power ahead of time?)

My trailer was “done” and by that I mean campable, back in 2016. Since then I’ve added a solar panel, insulated, and added a cedar interior. I’m always thinking of upgrades I could do in the future, and that’s even more true during this time when I’m not able to go camping because of COVID-19. I have worked out plans to add a spare tire hanger underneath, know where I’d put a water tank if I ever got one, and worked out what kind of Chinese diesel heater I’d install and where it would go. Of course these things would take some investment and time, but since I’m planning on having my trailer for decades, I bet some of them will happen eventually!

That is certainly doable as long as everything is labeled.

As Tony said, wiring can be a challenge if the planning isn't done first. Also, attachment with "hard points" can be difficult if the structure isn't there & thinking ahead wasn't done during the build. I was more inclined to spend more time on the initial planning of the build, so things went smoothly at the end. It's still a bear to do a task out of sequence, deferred gratification comes into play here.
