Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I found the local wholesale club has a Full size 2"memory foam mattress topper for $84. I was wondering if I bought two or three of them if that work work well in the TD. Together we weigh about 300lbs. Has anyone used these types of mattresses like this? How well does it work?

That's kinda steep. WalMart.com has a 4in full sized memory foam topper for $109. Also check overstock.com

They also have the "Renew" 6in (4.5in polyurethane foam and 1.5in of memory foam) mattress $162 for a full. That is the mattress that I am using. The website said "out of stock" but I also found them at the local store.

I found queen size toppers for $59 on sale wanted to get 3 of em , the wife seems to think you still might bottom out. I dont think so with 6 inches of memory faom , 4 inches yes but 6 I dont think so...........she's in charge of the bedding so I wait .........

Your question was about will it work, not the best deal to be found. (See, I was paying attention)

I have read somewhere on this forum that memory foam gets firmer as the ambient temperatures get lower, which is true. House temps stay relatively stable which works good for memory foam, I've got a posturepedic and really like it. However in my TD I chose to go with a foam mattress that had a combination of layers of foam none of which were memory foam, because of the temperatures issue. Memory foam softens as heat from your body transfers into it, in a cold teardrop that might take a long time and could might possibly lead to a slight hypothermia experience. If you cover the memory foam with something like a sleeping bag, the thermal transfer won't occur so the foam stays firm, but you stay warm. Just my thoughts, but since I didn't put memory foam in my TD, we need input from someone who did and has camped in cold climates and well as warm ones.

My experience with memory foam is not camping per se...

I have the Walmart 4" foam mattress with a 2" memory foam top on it.

When I climbed into the cold teardrop this winter, I noticed that the foam had hardened substantially. I had to leave my jacket on to lay down on that, and cover up with a blanket. Evantually the memory foam did warm up and soften up, but I wouldn't want to consistantly climb into a cold teardrop with memory foam.

Sis and got a memory foam from Costco on our trip last year on our trip to Missoula MT.. We used it for 6,000 miles 6 states 7 camp grounds. And 6 outtings after that trip but used it on top of a 3in foam matt. And for us old folks it was the best thing we ever got for confort for our trip. It's going to stay on for this years trips

The suggestion I received from Foam Products in nearby Tarpon Springs, where I'm going to get my cushions made, was to use a firm 4" foam cushion with a 2" memory foam laminated to them. But, this was for seat cushions that would be used for the mattress as well. I'll get the 4" foam cushions and buy a 2" or 3" topper to put on them. However, I don't anticipate camping when it very cold, so I don't the the mem foam will be that hard or cold.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. Our TD is a step up from tenting, so any thing more than a 1" thermarest is luxurious. I have never been bothered by the cold with my sleeping bag, but Debby is rarely warm enough. We thought the more traditional bedding of a camper would be better. I am glad we asked about the memory foam. Maybe I'll go with my original idea of a 4" foam and 2" memory foam topper custom ordered from Knox. It seems as many people have used them before in other posts. I'll have to check out Walmart for their bedding too. Thanks again everyone!

Anyone know how to glue memory foam to regular foam? Contact cement maybe...??

3M 74 is a spray adhesive specially formulated for urathane and latex foams. Use as directed it is stronger than the foam. If you can't find it locally 3M 77 will do the job as well and will be available in craft stores everywhere (except in CA apparently).
