Underfloor Storage.

As an additional usage of space in a minimalist trailer, such as a teardrop, how many members recommend the use of underfloor storage?
Can you post pictures of your build for this or the finished outcome?

...one thing to consider with underfloor storage if you use a torsion axle in your build as we do, is that you only have about4" total of space to put the storage box in before you get below the axle...but that is space can be used...

Image This is built on a TSC trailer the storage is about 38"x 20"something x 8" deep. Big enough for two fold up nylon chairs I'm glad I built it (not used yet )[/img]

I wasn't able to put one in, because of the way the trailer was built.

I know Karol and her Camp Inn, she mentioned that the underfloor box is hard to get to since you have to lift up the bedding to get to it.

We have some storage under the deck but its more usefull as a footwell. We keep bedding in it but its not deep enough for much more.

You mean like this?

Here they are completed.

I don't think I would make the large one quite so deep next time, but I really like to have the additional storage.

There are a lot more pictures on my website.

Like Julie said, I have under the bed storage. It is kinda hard to get to, so I don't use it for items that we need often. I carry things such as extra extension cords and plug adaptors. I also carry a boot dryer under there. (Don't know why my son's shoes are always wet!) Extra batteries for the flashlight and such also go under there. It is handy for those things that you don't need all the time. I don't know where I would put that stuff if I didn't have it.

CPASparks,

U might concider a shallow slide-out drawer that mounted on slide rails and brackets attached on the underside of the floor. At least that is what I plan on doing (I hope it works.). I have measured and remeasured, and I will cut tonight.

I initially wanted SS slides; they are costly. I changed my mind and considered wooden slides coated with fiberglass. After reviewing what Lowes had to offer, I settled on some painted slide with non-metal rollers. I will apply additional paint and hope for the best. The extra storage for hiking gear and towels and such will free up space inside the Tear.

Just a thought,

Kens,
what kind of clearance do you have under the storage box?
Just curious as I have a TSC trailer also.
Thanks,
Walter

Walter I built a 2"x2" framework over the metal frame that raised it up a little.Look at the picture above I went half way into the fenders. Trailer is all covered with tarps or I would run out and measure. I can tell you this it is about equal with the axel. Don't go below. Kens

I included underfloor storage in the Zephyr. I thought about a foot well, but decided that I didn't want a table so the foot well went out of the plans. But I did want storage. The only real difference is the location. My storage well is directly over the axel.

The reason I put it there was to keep tongue weight down, and to use it for heavy object. Placing it over the axel keeps the center of gravity very low. This is where I keep my spare tire, grease gun, tools, etc.

I recommend you build it the way YOU want to use it. That is the beauty of the TD.

I have a "False Floor". It gives me a 5'x8'x8" storage space. It is great. I need to put some dividers in to keep things from sliding around. Sorry no pics.
