Wood strip and canvas covering?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby nesika41 » Tue May 02, 2006 6:08 pm

See if I can post a picture. Hope it's not too big. Hard to know, before covering w/ canvas (or perhaps fiberglass) how strong it'd be.

[Edit] That didn't work.........

Those Tumbleweed houses sure are cool , and a hell of a lot nicer than a FEMA trailer ..... :o

OlD airplanes were basically sticks and plywood , covered with "doped' (aircraft lacquer) canvas.... Canvas had to be changed every 50 years or so .... and they were strong and light enough to FLY ...We just have to do alot of "taxi ing"around... hahahahaha

How about a mini Connestoga( spelled badly ?) wagon ... just a cool box with all your stuff attached ,mounted on a small frame/trailer , a handfull of fiberglas ribs that fit into tubes in the box , and a simple canvas cover .... Pretty easy huh ???
There’s no place like Foam !

(This is referring to the 'flexy roof'.)

The idea is copied, like all my 'ideas'! - in this case from a British motorcaravan, a panel van conversion type of RV. The flexing panel was made with aluminium that was ribbed or corrugated along the length. The side panels and end panels were ply and piano hinges were used at the joints. It was uninsulated. The one thing I can't work out is how the end panels seal to the flexing panel - if you put a lip on the flexing panel, it ain't gonna flex so well.

I can't find any photos of this type of roof, but I'll keep looking.

I ran into this recently and it was driving me nuts. Then I remembered something from a while back. The web address has to end with .jpg for it to post as an image. I didn't want to go thru the trouble of copying the image and uploading it to the host so I just posted the link.
