I know this is a stupid question but does the galley hatch hinge need to be cut to the outside edge of the trailer.
Why I ask is that my trailer is 4' 1 1/2"s wide. 4 feet plus the 2 3/4" outside walls.
I just need to order my hinge and dont know if I should go 4' or 5'

Help

just my opinion but order it longer and cut it to fit,,, you will want the hinge to funnel water off to the side and if its cut short then the crack on each end has to be filled in with something ,,, just something to engineer if its too short,,,

Thanks for the fast reply.
I was just trying to be cheap and order the 4 footer.
Cheap usually is the wrong choice.
I guess 5 feet it is.

Are you getting it from Grant @ LilBear? If so, email him you trailer width & he may sell you a 4 footer & just cut it long. It does not hurt to ask.

Hi all,

On the same topic but a slightly different question; Did you all put sealer under the hinge section that attaches to the trailer? I'm getting ready to install the trailer side and started to think that water could get under the hinge and drip into the galley. I am thinking of using the same putty as I used for the roof vent and front window.

I laid down a thick bead of caulk before installing my galley hinge. I fabricated these rain diverters to help keep water out of the galley.

I got mine from him When you order it just tell him the width of the roof he'll tell you what to order. I told him mine was 63" he emailed back that I would need a 64" and that's what he sent me. I got it 3 days after ordering it.

Joanne , yes you will need to seal under the hinge on the top. I forgot to do mine at first & went camping & it RAINED , water poured into the galley under the hinge! Learned a lesson , double check yoour work br for moving onto the next step! I used a bead of self leveling caulk to seal it. Does not leak NOW! :applause: :applause: :applause: Good luck!

Tom,

Thanks for the picture on those diverters. I'm going to need to make something like that for me as well.

That's exactly what I was concerned about!! I'll be sure to apply the sealer when I install it.

Thanks!
