Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I was loading up some scraps of plywood last night and it brought on this question. What type of 3/4" plywood should I ask for that will have the most number of plies?

I'm looking for 4x8 sheets so baltic is out. Last night I counted 11 plies on one piece os scrap, 7 plies on another and it seems like the ACX that I used on the floor of my utility trailer only had 4 or 5 plies. I also need it to be exterior grade for my new side walls. Any help?

Mike, we used 4x8 Baltic birch cabinet grade ply w/exterior glue and 13 plies...we get it from a cabinet shop located right behind us(very handy)

Thanks for the reply madjack. What does it run, price wise, per sheet? Sounds like I might have to make some calls and try to round some of this up.

Mike. ply prices vary wildly around the country...even in the same town or place of business...I think we paid around 35 bucks a sheet...

I called one lumber wholsaler and they quoted me $70.00 per sheet for 3/4" birch 4'x8'. OUCH!

Still shopping. I'll call more places tommorow.

I think the only thing you are going to find in exerior around here is Fir. That is not bad, but it is heavy. I assume that you are making the sides all in one piece.

The difference between "regular" and "exteior" plywood is the glue, for the most part.

They are out of Portland, but have a warehouse in Boise and Salt Lake. There should be a cabinet shop buys from them, (they are wholesale only) in your area. They should be able to help.

They have the best selection I know of, though Intermountain out of SLC has an equal selection.

If you can chisel a bit on the exterior part, there are more options.

...thinking I may have been mistaken(NEVER HAPPENS ...yeah right) I went back and checked receipts and I was ...we paid $28.78 per sheet...as I said, prices vary wildly...good luck on your shopping...

Well I went to the big orange box Saturday night and came away thinking about 3/4"certified sanded ply wood. The current flier has it priced at $32.95 but at the store it was priced $29.99. In the flier add it stated the following, "Face veneer is Douglas Fir. Excelent for interior or exterior use." So I presume that the glue used is an exterior grade glue. Might need to get a little better confirmation of this though.

This plywood is a 5 ply sheet. I would have liked it to have more plies but.... I'll see what happens in the next day or so. I might have to go get three sheets and then put the board stretcher to two of the sheets until they are 9'long instead of 8'. We'll see.
