Raindrop Unveiled (really)

Here's where you can talk to the manufacturers about custom built trailers, etc...

Postby Cary Winch » Thu Jun 23, 2005 1:00 pm

Ah, yes specs. It is what we call a 10'. That is not counting the front storage. That would make it 2' longer than the rest of our trailers. We always said that most people never completely utilize a 10' and if we built one it would have to add alot of funtionality. Hence the multipurpose front end.

The weight on that bad boy in the pictures is 1348lb. That is with air conditioning and TV and all. A comparably optioned 550 Ultra would be just under 1100lb.

The couch sets up into two positions. In the "bench" mode it is only about 5-6" above the mattress so you would have to sit with your legs straight out. That is more for travelling than resting. It allows access to the front storage. Then when you want to set up for resting you relocate it into the "sofa" mode. In this mode the front edge moves up and away. There is a hinged backrest that folds up against the bulkhead and the other cushion velcros in place. This places you in a recliner type of position. This allows you to sit in a much more comfortable bent leg position without having to drop your legs through the floor. A little hard to explain until your plant your butt in one.

The porta potty version? Well we did actually discuss it with a earlier design concept. This shape really wouldn't allow it to work though. But, we are not worried because we have a solution coming soon for all our trailers. Another top secret project very near to release here. The best part is it will work with alot of everyone elses trailers too. Stay tuned.

As for the credit Dean. It sort of was a group effort. Joe originally started us working on a 2+2 design with constant pestering. We designed up several versions. Craig came in one day with a cad file labeled Bizarre. We all shook our head and said it was crazy. The problem is the more we looked at it the more it made sense. And that is what evolved into the Raindrop. So, I guess Craig is the one to blame. He really is the brains of the bunch around here.

That sofa with windows on three sides is a really nice concept. I really like it.

dag nabbit. Almost done with my Camp-Inn clone and then you spring this nifty little thing on us. We just found out we are expecting the second little one, now that little rig would come in handy. I guess next year a 560 clone.

Cary it looks great. How much longer is that frame? Did you have to move the axle forward any?

Cary,
That pretty darn cool!. It was worth the wait. You guys out did yourselves. One thing though, it needs a roving red light in the front window. It reminds me of the show I watched as a kid. It reminds me of a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica. PRETTY DARN COOL for shape, design, form and function.

Steve,

The frame is 2' longer and made of heavier steel with some pretty nifty tension rods to stifffen it. The axle got moved 8" forward of a 550. The guys here have been pretty amazed at our frames I know, wait to they peek under one of these.

Woody,

Yup, Cameron (the new guy) is right the reading light mounted above the window has the red position. And it was his idea too.

At night it really really looks cool with just that light on. Makes for a good way to find the trailer at the campsite.

Novaanne,

Is it that you just want to see one of ours in person or does it need to be a Raindrop? There is a 550 Ultra over in Los Alamitos that you could go see if you wish.

Well, I said I would post the pictures of the Raindrop at the start of Minden. We decided to post them a little early.

So, here it is. The link to the webpage for it is:

Hey Cary!

You guys ROCK! You have once again set the standard for way-cool tears. I have to agree that it has a certain Art Deco look to it (which I just love). I'm proud to be a small part of the teardrop revival.

Congrats again and thanks for the sneak preview!

Hi,

My first night in this wonderfully-discovered forum and I trip over THIS gem? Excellent. I spoke with someone at Camp-Inn on the phone last year about installing a heavy-duty 2-inch receiver so I could carry tires to the races. I'm not sure if you are the one. But I have a question: What is the tongue weight of this trailer? My target tow vehicle is my VW Jetta diesel. So I cannot go too heavy or I'll have to redistribute some weight.

Thanks,

Scott
