Have tried several tarp and auto canopy configurations, this one is by far my favorite. Packs pretty small and light, too, while it seems quite substantial.

so have you winter camped in your TD yet?
Just curious to know what it was like towing in the snow, and how warm it was inside while camping.

I'm considering buying a trailer instead of building(more time for travelling). Still deciding on what brand to buy...

Last fall it got down to 20 degrees one night and I have no heater so it was cold. But I have a zero-degree bag so slept OK. I have since bought a small catalytic heater ("Mr. Heater Buddy") that's designed for tents and RVs but I haven't used it. Bought it to heat up the teardrop during mornings so it'll be easier to get out of bed.

I have not towed in the snow and have no desire to. Fact is we haven't had much snow here for the past several years and by the time we normally would (January-February) the campgrounds we frequent are closed.

What teardrops are you considering purchasing?

well, so far i have been looking at:

1. the 6' littleguy. like yours. Except i want a galley in the back.

I don't think i'll go with #3, the adventure TD. They are really well made( i have actually looked at one first hand) Good insulation and quality. However they are Pretty expensive at around $11thousand! +taxes.

the others on my list are pretty much the same price. around $8G.
the wee-kender is made on vancouver island(close to me), and offers a few options like duel batteries, larger wheels, roof racks, etc.

the little guy looks interesting, although the galley/interiors don't really grab my attention much. they are too 'plastic' looking, however the black cabinet interior shots look interesting.
A drawer for my laptop and power inverter would be a manditory add on.

Well made by the Amish, and 4 X 8 price is around $6000.

H/C, that cover is exactly what I want to try... easy to pack, takes up little room.

The pole across the front, does it split or is it one long piece?

Hi Arne.

That pole splits in half. And, amazingly, it all easily goes back in the original bag.

Seems most tents and canopies are difficult to get back into the storage bag they come with.

Highly recommend.

well, with all the photos, and trailers ive seen lately, i've narrowed my search back to the little guy silver shadow models.

I noticed today that there is a sale on the 'white shadow' at a local dealership, although i haven't gone down to the lot to look at it in person. I looked at a few models a month ago, and if they were new, something was wrong. the kitchens had a fair amount of water damage in them.
If its' in good shape, i would think $5900. CDN is a pretty good price.

with all the heavy snow we've had lately, id have to spend an hour just to dig my truck outta the snowbank. that said, i'm still wondering what the SS would be like to pull in the snow! *ponders removing the tires, and putting on skis...* On the upside, snow is an insulation, so winter camping wouldnt be all that bad...

The Silver Shadows sure are nice looking.

I have had a silver shadow for nearly three years now. I am totally satisfied. I just recently towed it to Seattle and back to KY and it tracked wonderfully. I did tow it through about three inches of snow in Yellowstone and had no problem. Mine is a 5X8 and I think that is a nice size. Ilike the larger wheels as well.

HC: i will absolutely post pics after i buy one. before, and after the paint! Besides i like to show off! Too bad i don't have a cool savy Samoyed to pose for me...

ParTaxer: have you tried to pull your SS in the snow? I would be curious to know if you have had any issue with your TD and snow.

My only other wish, is to be able to swap the TD wheels with matching 6 bolt aluminum Nissan Rims... too bad my nissan wheels are 15"...
since i am an avid 4x4 enthusiest, i'll have to look at a few inches of lift on it.
i guess i'll have to look into this more...

I've pulled mine in three inches of snow. No problem. I think the real thing is the tow vehicle; the trailer is going to follow whatever is towing it. The only factor is ground clearance. The silver shadow has as much clearance as any. Enjoy it; I have!
