hey HC what size storage locker did you store your TD in, and how much room did you have left over when it was inside?

a photo would be appreciated if you've got one.

Hi, Al. It's a 10' x 20' storage unit. You wouldn't want it any narrower for a 6'-wide. It's plenty long.





20' is plenty long. As you can see in the first photo, I keep other gear in there. Much more than is shown in that photo.

The most important thing before you settle on a storage unit is to measure the door opening. The day before my teardrop was to be delivered to the storage unit, I woke up pre-dawn in a panic -- having suddenly realized that I hadn't measured the door!!! I drove out there a few hours later (180 miles round trip) and discovered I had just 7" leeway.

According to the Little Guy web page, the 6'-wide platform model is 97.5" fender-to-fender. The opening to the storage unit measured 104."

It certainly disciplined me on learning to back up the trailer. Still I don't always get it right on the first try.

Shenandoah National Park is about 90-100 miles from DC, depending on where you enter it.

Seems a million miles away when you've escaped the Beltway and are camping.

wow. i don't know what storage costs in DC, but its'retty expensive here.
a 10x20 here goes for over $200!

i guess ill have to look into this more, when i decide to buy. I looked at a SS 5x8 a few days ago. it was buried in the back of a rv dealership (literally in snow). it looked pretty good. no signs of water damage or anything. it was the nice one with the birch galley, and finished interior.
apparently they have it listed at $5900CDN.

i have seen a few different types of TDs now, including a T@B for 10,9k.
all in all, i think the LG SS was the cheapest of the lot.
as usual, im always hesitant when making purchases of this kind. i'm still not sure if i would use it enough to warrant the expense of the purchase, and storage.
i don't camp much anymore, probably because of all the hassles of tents, and dreaded camping fees. this makes me ponder whether the comforts of the TD would make me want to camp more.

Don't know how the CDN is comparing to $US right now but I'm not paying anywhere near US$200 a month. But it's not in the Beltway, either.

We camped 50 nights last year. Never would have done that with a tent.

My teardrop has been in storage since November. Today I aired up the tires and took it for a spin in the mountains. And aired it out. Roadtrip fever is hitting hard! The tear seemed bare (and a bit tongue heavy) without bikes on the back.

Interior shots. Other than clothes, it's good to go for camping. "Damp Rid" sure is great stuff, so good it may be impeding the patina on my copper and brass weather instruments.

2 months ago i went to buy a silver shadow on sale and it was gone...


all the other retailers up here want $11G for one, which is unnacceptable.
oh well... i guess i'll just keep my ears to the ground and keep looking.

I live a little south of you and I spent $150 total for storage from Nov to May. It wasn't heated but it kept my trailer out of the weather. Even if you lived at the top of BC, it would be cheaper to make the trip down and store a trailer for six months until you needed it again.
I have seen a few really nice trailers out of BC some custom and some manufactured. Have you looked at a Wee-Kender? I'm not sure what you are looking for however there is a lot out there.

yes i have looked at a few of them, including the guys on the island(weekender). unfortunately when i was on the island they had none in stock, so i couldnt actually tow one home, which was the plan.
i have also looked at the trailers made by the guys outside of vernon. nice product actually, but i thought $11g was a bit excessive for a basic trailer. the silver shadow that i missed had a tv and stereo built in for $5900 CDN. not that i needed the tv, but the price was right. I had cash!

from what ive gathered the local builders don't usually stock them, and only build to order. i wouldve thought that they would at least have a demo model potential customers would look at.
i want to just drive in, pay cash, and start my journey in my TD.

at this point im considering shopping across the border. i wonder if it would be worth it, with taxes and duty...
