I'm calling overhyped fear mongering, terrorism and paedophiles.

Link to single case where that actually happened due to PMs on a public web forum.

Talk about irony, the trailer in the Hall of Fame while I was reading this was "Dave's Woody".

My lack of experience & "expert knowledge" cause me to use p.m. almost exclusively. I will miss it greatly, but continue to check in about twice daily. You must do what is best. Thank you Coyote

Mike,

I am very active on a larger forum on an obscure subject.

Owned by a single benefactor who seldom appears. Moderation is done by 4 volunteer mods. They like the job and subject matter. Members want the job.

PMs are allowed but I dislike them as I prefer all interaction to be public, even the noobie questions that often get repeated. There is a private to subscribers FS section where no comments are allowed and only by PM. No complaints to mods either. Buyer and seller beware.

As it is a photography site there is a nude section. Porn not allowed. Not a fan of that section which is small and has little happening.

Any post can be flagged with the black bottom left triangle. I use it. Even a nasty PM can be reported.

No politics or religion allowed. No auctions. No calling people names. Maybe a warning, maybe a black ball.

No links to eBay. No links to porn.

I like this site. I like its casualness. Make changes as you see fit Mike!

ps, I used to be a booster of forum members using verified real names. Since FB has blown, I changed my mind. I also quit FB and Twit.

Find a way to link a subscriber to Facebook messenger in their profile then let it fall on Facebook to monitor private conversations.

I know hundreds of friends that never use FB for anything, certainly would not use a forum that encouraged it.

You can use messenger without a Facebook. Then it's on their lawyers not Mike's. An optional thing use it or not it puts no legal burden on this forum.

I wish I had received a message in my email saying PM's were going down. I had a few messages I was saving for my next build.

Is it permissable to add an email address to your signature line?

Not just here...

US Congress just passed HR 1865, "FOSTA", seeking to subject websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully.

Any tool or service can be misused. We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.

To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!

Everyone is being tracked now, whether thru cellphone use (landlines too, but I disconnected mine), or on the internet. If such tracking is possible nowadays, then why can't the actual "offender" be tracked, instead of laying the blame on an innocent hosting website? Or is that too much to ask for...FOSTA is just another scheme to enable the powers that be to get total control of the web, our forums, our personal communications, our lives.... Heck, I get so much spam and spurious calls on my cellphone, that I use three call blockers; and as for the internet threats, two browsers, two VPN's, a separate "sandbox", and two virus apps on all my devices. Why doesn't the govt. address that problem, as well, instead of just personal comms?

The government's role is to help businesses and their owners, not ordinary people.

They should not have the surveillance powers they do, but the fact they're only using them against terrorists and perceived as dangerous political oponents is IMO a good thing.

 I suspect that it is going to hurt our little forum; but, I doubt that there is much we can do about it. :(

I, too, had data in my Personal Messages that I should have saved....Didn't think the ax would fall so quickly.
