Photo help

Postby TimothyHD » Sat Oct 13, 2018 2:41 pm

I am trying to upload a couple of photos. They are about 4.3 MB each and get the Following error:

While uploading „20181013_145912_Film3.jpg“ the following error occurred:
» The attachment’s file size is too large, the maximum upload size is 2 MB.
Please note this is set in php.ini and cannot be overridden.
You must enter your path and filename

I thought files up to 8 MB were allowed?

Both overall file size ( 7.6 MB) and the dimensions : 640 x 640 pixels.

Off my camera, the images are only 3 MB, but are 4288 x 2848 pixels. At 300 dpi, 14.3 inches x 9.5 inches. I would have to reduce my images to 44 dpi to fit at full scale. Probably it would be better to scale the image to 50% of the current size.

There is (free) software that can scale the image and reduce the dpi. For a website, 70 - 100 dpi should generate a reasonable image.

Use a free hosting service like postimage.org

I alway resize to 640 on the long side to 72DPI. That seems to work good for all platforms. My photo software does it for me when I save a JPG from RAW.

It is best to upload your photos to the forum instead of a hosting service. Look what happened when Photobucket started charging. There are so many threads on this forum that no longer have photos that were hosted on Photobucket. Even if you are no longer active on the forum or with your hosting service the pictures uploaded on the forum will stay linked in your threads.
