Teardrop Design Contest

Postby mikeschn » Wed Jul 07, 2004 5:26 am

Hey folks,

Here's our first ever design contest! It's time to unleash the creative bug in you. And we have a prize too, a real prize, that almost any teardropper can use.... But first, the contest...

Teardrop/Tiny Travel Trailer Design Contest

The objective: To design the most asethetic most visually appealing trailer that fills the basic camping requirements of being able to sleep in the trailer, and cook in the galley. The design must be original. It must be manufacturable. And it must be towable.

You can use any piece of software or even a pencil. Please use graph paper. Drawings must be to scale to qualify. The drawing must show the side profile. The overall length and width should be noted on the drawing. The top view is optional and can be shown to clarify the design. The interior components should be shown. (You can use a dashed line for interior components). You may submit as many entries as you want!

Contest Ending date: 6 PM on July 16th, 2004

Entries will be judged by a poll of T&TTT users. The entry with the most votes wins. The poll will start July 16th and continue until 6PM July 23th. If there's a tie, the poll will continue until the tie is broken. Design must be uploaded to this message thread by 6PM on July 16th, 2004.

The prize: So if you're going to work hard on a design there'd better be a good prize, right? Okay, here's the prize. An electrowarmth 12v mattress pad, sized to fit a standard 48" wide teardrop.

Here's an example of an entry... (although I could have made the dashed lines darker!) It's to scale, the overall length and width are dimensioned, a top view would be helpful to see the wheels tucked inside the body.

So what cha waiting for? Start drawing!!!

How do we submit? Via email or posting? Does it have to be new or can it be something we have posted already?

You can post the designs right in this thread, starting right now, and until July 16th. I had to update the dates, I was looking at the June calendar not the July calendar.

It has to be one of your original designs. Yes, you can repost your drawings that you posted in other threads.

Mike,

Are you going to limit it to one design per member?

Nick.

Were-Tear

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:44 am

This monster is my were-tear. It transforms! It uses a raised roof to provide headroom while parked and a low easy to tow unit when lowered.

Modern Cabin Car

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:48 am

This is inspired by the old cabin car. It has been shortened and raised and the galley has been moved to the back. Lots of room for galley cabinets to be built to suit yor needs. This unit has an A/C positioned over the rear axle which means it will have almsot no effect on tongue weight. It has an inside dinette for two and lots of storage!

Super Cheif

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:53 am

Another theme trailer. As you can tell by now I love all vintage machines. But trains hold a special place in my heart.
This design is called the Super Chief. Widely respected as the most luxurious train of the streamlined era, the cars of Santa Fe's 1937 Super Chief were virtually hand built. Each sleeping compartment was individually decorated with unique wood paneling and trim, a feature no other streamline train could boast.
I wanted a trailer that would have the same feeling.

B-17

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:05 pm

The B-17. One of the most influential heavy bombers ever built. This awe-inspiring plane helped win the war against Japan, and when teamed with long range fighter escorts such as the P-38 lightning helped shift the balance of the war in Europe as well. Just as an aside note I was in the the 146th Airlift Wing in the early 80's. Also my grandfather worked for Lockheed where he helped build the P-38.
This trailer is my tribute to the flying heroes of WWII

It seems to me that a suitable subject for this competition would be the wheelchair-carrying tear that superfly8 has asked for:

That could also be the subject of another design contest, since this one is already underway. But anyone can submit any design, even one that would suit superfly. The beauty will be in the eye of the judges, that is, all the users here who choose to vote!

Wheelcahir friendly

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 2:54 pm

This trailer is in response to a request by superfly for a wheelchair friendly trailer. It is a small trailer with clean simple lines. It features and rear hatch which lowers to form a wheelchair ramp, latches in the floor to secure the wheelchair, and an oversize passenger side door so that assistance may be given to person easily.
It still retains space for a large sleeping area, cooler, stove, and plenty of storage.
This trailer would also work great for motorcycles or bicycles. Though for a motorcycle I would probably make it a foot taller.

Micro Habitat

Postby Shrug53 » Thu Jul 08, 2004 5:05 pm

Ok here is my Micro-Habitat. It is a camper type trailer rather than a tear.
It is a 10.5' x 6.5' micro-trailer with all the features of a big camper!
