the new version looks great, but there are problems with this one now.

Hey Mike:

There's a few hours tonight that most of us won't be online.... what a great time to upgrade!

It is looking great! Thanks for all your hard work!

I hope there will be a clean up of all the old posts and stickys.
Relevance of many has expired and I'm sure it burns up tons of band width.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Lazybones:

If no one is looking at the old threads, it doesn't use any bandwidth, just hard drive space, and like email, it uses very little hard drive space. Pictures take up probably 90% of the storage if not more.

Imagine an old attic full of boxes of stuff, and the only way to clean it, is to go through every box, item by item. That's what it would be like to clean up the old threads. Not worth the effort, and the possible loss of something someone someday might find useful. ;)

I like it...I like the announcements (stickies) separate from the general posts.

Also like the departments at the top of the page...not so much to read through. I hope the album is easier to use...I still haven't figured out how to navigate this one well.

Good work!

NICE!!! ... clean setup, pull down menus at the top of the page are more intuitive than the past ... search is EASY to find for newbies now, with luck it will work a little better. Having the author/avatar on the other side of the screen threw me for a loop for a second. Tried browsing around a little, only a few of the avatar pics are there. The galleries look very nice, BIG thumbnails, sub-albums will make organizing them easier. I'll have to relearn how to get around without the [view next topic] button ... that is unless I missed it somewhere.

It'll take 9 hours to upgrade, and another week to create the search index.

I don't think tonight is a good idea!

I got the old board fixed. restored a file from backup...

I have a new plan for the new board... converting everything takes about 9 hours...

Then I'll put it online, and create the new search index, which takes about a week. So the forum would run slow for the first week... But at least you would have a forum.

Mike, I don't see a "view posts since last visit" button. I hope this functionality isn't being lost, I use it every time I visit the forum.

At first blush, I think we are going to do this sometime in March.

There is going to be a week when messages are not saved. But I'll leave the old forum up in case something urgent has to be posted.
