Leaf Springs

Postby tnknutson » Mon Mar 21, 2016 3:30 pm

New here, and first post.

I have an old 1973 Starcraft Starmaster 6 pop up frame on which I'm going to build a teardrop.

One leaf spring is broken so I was going to replace the pair but I'm having difficulty finding something suitable. Current springs are 2" wide and everything new looks to be 1 3/4. The gross weight of the camper was 2280 according to the tag. The only 2" wide springs I'm finding are rated for 4500 lbs each, with 6 leaves. I don't think I need anything that big.

My questions are, what steps would be needed to convert to 1 3/4 springs? Or is there a place to find 2" leaf springs, 26 1/2 (eye to eye) rated at around 1500 lbs?

Thanks for the help,
Tim

If you live in or near a big enough city there should be local spring shops that can help. That's where I went for replacement springs when a 35 year old trailer of mine broke a leaf.
